Grand Budapest Hotel e Boyhood sono i film migliori nelle rispettive categorie, come da previsioni anche se alcuni critici sentono un certo snob all’acclamatissimo Selma. Due premi a Birdman: sceneggiatura e miglior attore Michael Keaton che sorge da anni di silenzio e, non senza ironia, abbraccia un altro supereroe volante in maniera molto, molto diversa da Batman. Miglior attore e attrice in un film drammatico ad Eddie Redmayne (La teoria del tutto) e Julianne Moore per Still Alice, per la forza e l’importanza delle performance due premi quasi scontati.
Nella categoria TV qualche sorpresa, o forse il nuovo che scalcia il vecchio con globi alle novità del 2014: Fargo e Billy Bob Thornton, Matt Bomer con il film TV The Normal Heart e The Affair, con Ruth Wilson miglior attrice.
