Dalla lunga stagione delle premiazioni che ha visto Birdman e Boyhood testa a testa è il primo che porta a casa i grandi premi agli Oscar: Miglior Film e Regia lasciano Linklater a bocca asciutta, ma non la sua attrice, Patricia Arquette si conferma Miglior Attrice Non Protagonista di quest anno. Miglior Attore Eddie Redmayne per La Teoria del Tutto spodesta Michael Keaton da una stagione che l’aveva visto sempre con statuette in mano.
Poi Julianne Moore (Still Alice), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Ida: non c’è mai stata una vera e propria competizione.
The Imitation Game vince il premio per la sceneggiatura non originale e il preferito di chi non vota all’Academy, American Sniper, torna a casa con solo il successo al botteghino e il premio per il montaggio sonoro.
