Si avvicina la fine dell'anno e come consuetudine, iniziano ad affiorare i primi giudizi di riviste specializzate, giornali, giornaletti e webzine varie su quali siano stati i migliori - anche se non necessariamente i più originali e/o innovativi - album del 2006.
Ad occhio, nelle varie liste finora disponibili targate Regno Unito due album sono (quasi) sempre presenti in alta posizione: "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" dei ventenni britannici Arctic Monkeys e "Modern Times" del nonno del rock & folk nonchè genio riconosciuto universalmente Bob Dylan. Sia il settimanale UK New Musical Express che il mensile Q incoronano i Monkeys, mentre Uncut sceglie Bob, a cui anche Mojo conferisce la postazione d'onore ove il n.1 è (discutibile) appannaggio di "Broken Boy Soldiers" dei Raconteurs di Jack White e Brendan Benson.
