E' quasi tutto pronto. Adesso.
I riformati Smashing Pumpkins sono al cancelletto di partenza sette anni dopo lo split (inevitabile) avvenuto dopo "Machina". L'artwork di "Zeitgeist", che ritrae la Statua della Libertà inghiottita dalle acque, è opera di Shepard Fairey che ha usato lo stesso font del primissimo singolo della band "I Am One"/"Tristessa". Fairey ha dichiarato: "I think global warming is an issue that is currently relevant, time sensitive, and a symptom of the shortsightedness of the U.S., as a broader metaphor, the drowning Statue of Liberty, a revered icon of the U.S., symbolizes the eminent demise of many of the ideals upon which the nation was founded. Civil liberties, freedom of speech, privacy, etc. have been decreasing since 9/11. The sun in the image could either be setting or rising and this ambiguity shows that there is still hope to turn things around". Il disco sarà fuori il 10 luglio via Martha's Music/Reprise anticipato dal singolo "Tarantula" che invece entrerà nei negozi il 22 maggio proprio quando i Pumpkins esordiranno live a Parigi con la nuova line up. Un tour europeo prima di tornare in USA e Canada. Insieme al fidato Jimmy Chamberlin ci saranno la bella bassista Ginger Reyes e il chitarrista Jeff Schroeder. La prima, californiana, arriva dalla punk band femminile delle Halo Friendlies (quattro album all'attivo) mentre il secondo è uno dei fondatori dei punk noise pop The Lassie Foundation (tre album in cantina). Dunque è finalmente terminata la ridda di voci sui possibili nuovi membri della band che consegna alla storia James Iha, D'arcy Wretzky e Melissa Auf der Maur. La produzione ha coinvolto i due membri originali ed i noti Roy Thomas Baker e Terry Date.
